Mobile app — map and no connection

What this is for

A list is good for comparing prices. A map is good for checking where something is.

On a map you can see at once which hotel is near the beach and which is two stops from the centre.

This article also describes what the app does when you lose your internet — for example on a plane or abroad.

For anyone using the app. The map works when searching for hotels.

What you see

The list and map switch

On the hotel results screen there is a button that changes the view. It says "Map" or "List" — that is, it tells you what you will switch to.

The map

The map is Google Maps — the same on an iPhone and on Android, and the same as on the website. Place names, streets and the look are therefore identical everywhere.

On the map you see:

• Pins — each shows the price per night.
• A bottom card — tapping a pin brings up a card with the name, price and a button to open the offer.
• A "Search this area" button — it appears after you move the map.
• A "Show all results" button — it goes back to the full list.

When you narrow the area, at the top you will see: "In this area: 7 of 24 offers.".

When offers have no coordinates: "These offers have no coordinates — the partner will give the exact location at booking.".

Step by step

1. Search for hotels in the app.
2. On the results screen tap the "Map" button.
3. Move and zoom the map to where you want to stay.
4. Tap "Search this area".
5. See how many offers are left: "In this area: 7 of 24 offers.".
6. Tap a pin to see the details in the bottom card.
7. Tap the card to open the offer.
8. To go back, tap "Show all results" or the "List" button.

What happens next

Narrowing the area works exactly like on the website. The app turns the visible part of the map into the same area notation the website uses. That way the list and the map show exactly the same offers.

Pins without coordinates do not disappear from the list — they simply are not on the map. We do not guess a location if the partner did not give one.

When there is no internet

The app does not work fully offline. You cannot download maps for use without a network, and you cannot browse new offers without a connection.

What does work, or works more gently:

• Screens without a network show a clear "No connection" message and a "Try again" button instead of a blank page. That is how search results, bookings, saved offers, alerts and saved travellers behave.
• Saved offers have a cache. When there is no network, the app shows the last known list instead of an empty screen.
• Place hints have a fallback list built into the app. You will then see: "Hints from a local list — no connection to the server.".
• Settings load default values when they cannot be fetched from the server. Nothing breaks.
• Logging out works locally straight away, and the app finishes it on the server when the network is back.
• Payment checking never guesses. Without a network it shows "We do not know yet whether the payment went through" and offers a retry button.

How to prepare for no network

1. Before you travel, open "Bookings" and go into the trip details.
2. Log in on the website and download the PDF documents (ticket, voucher, certificate).
3. Save them on your phone or print them.
4. Take a screenshot of the booking number and the PNR.

A PDF saved on your phone opens without internet. That is the simplest way to have everything at hand at the airport.

Frequent questions

Can I download the map for later? No. The map in the app needs a connection. Download offline maps in the separate Google Maps app.

The map is empty even though I have results. That means those offers have no coordinates. The app then says: "These offers have no coordinates — the partner will give the exact location at booking.".

Is the map only for hotels? Yes. For flights, tours, cars and insurance a map view makes no sense, because the offer is not a point on a map.

I see "No connection" even though I have internet. Try the "Try again" button. Sometimes it is our server not answering for a moment. If the problem lasts, check whether your phone is in flight mode or behind a strict firewall.

Are tickets available without internet? A PDF saved on your phone — yes. The document list in the app needs a connection, because we generate files on demand. That is why it is worth downloading documents before you travel.
