Iceland — how to plan the trip
You see Iceland from the road. Even a short four-day trip covers the Golden Circle and the south coast; a week is enough to drive Route 1 around the island, and ten days let you add the Westfjords or the Snæfellsnes peninsula.
The weather changes several times a day and it — not your plan — decides the route. Check the forecast and road status before setting off; in summer most roads take an ordinary car, but the F-roads in the interior require 4×4.
Food and accommodation are among the most expensive in Europe, which is why many travellers combine guesthouses with cooking for themselves. Fuel and the rental car can cost more than the flight.
